Young Advisors Manifesto and ‘River of Change’ Artwork
We are delighted to share a presentation video put together by our Network Young Advisors, talking about their manifesto for engagement between young people and professionals, along with the ‘River of Change’ artwork the group created to explain their journey from where they started to what they hope to ultimately achieve.
The video was viewed for the first time at our Executive Board meeting earlier this week, following the in-person launch of the manifesto and artwork hosted by the Young Advisors back in February. It was the culmination of a process which began last summer with our ‘board-to-board’ development day, which brought our adult Executive Board together with the Youth Board.
The Young Advisors spent a day creating the artwork with the help of Sajil Kaleem (a local artist) and support from Children North East and Dr Debbie Ralls from Newcastle University.

Core20PLUS5 is a national framework to address health inequalities, which the Network has developed to focus on regional priorities and incorporating wider determinants of health.
Funding was awarded to Rise for the Ready to Play project, designed to help create more active children who are healthier, happier and learn better – in the communities that need it most.
The project will support you and your organisation and staff to reduce health inequalities by improving early development and school readiness through active learning, as well as increase physical activity and build the knowledge, skills and confidence of staff.
Rise are currently taking applications from organisations that work with underserved communities in low-income areas where the NHS has highlighted a higher risk of health inequalities.

Children North East ‘Get out and grow!’
This Summer, Children North East are encouraging more children and young people to get out into the natural world and experience the benefits of being in nature.
Whether you live in a rural area with plenty of green space, or a city with a local park we are encouraging families to spend time together learning about the natural world.
If you would like to join in with the action, we are offering free Seed Grow Pouches to encourage people to Get Out & Grow! These handy pouches are small enough to thrive on a windowsill and will grow bee-attracting flowers which can be planted outdoors or in a pot, teaching children the cycle of seed to sproutlings to full plants, and how these play an important role in our biodiversity.
Sign up now to get your free Seed Grow Pouch, and make sure to send us some photos!

Asthma + Lung UK Parent Carer Support Network
Please share the following information with the families you work with.
Who are we? Do you have children or grandchildren who are 0-17 and living with asthma? The Asthma + Lung UK Parent Carer Support Network is a group for you. You are welcome to join us if your child has been diagnosed with asthma, or if you think they might have asthma. We will give you lots of help to manage your child’s asthma at home, in school and in after-school clubs.
How can we help? Every month we get together in a relaxed and friendly online video call. We talk about the ups and downs of our children’s asthma journey with kind and supportive nurses and doctors. They can answer any questions you have about asthma. Our group is also a great place to meet other families of children with asthma, who understand what you’re going through. Join our mailing list and sign up to our next event here:

Wednesday 29th May @ 7pm: How does air pollution affect childhood asthma?
Be the solution, not the pollution!
Our next meeting is all about how air pollution can affect asthma. Our Clean Air Team will be on hand to tell you about our campaigns for our children’s right to breathe. We wouldn’t make our children drink dirty water, so why should they have to breathe dirty air?
Meet Dr Ian Sinha – a breath of fresh air!
Dr. Ian is a world leading children’s lung doctor from Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. He is ready and waiting to answer all your asthma questions, so you can breathe a little easier.
Have any questions?

National Epilepsy Week – Young Epilepsy petition
Every child with epilepsy deserves to be safe and included at school
It’s National Epilepsy Week (20-26 May) and the charity Young Epilepsy is highlighting the importance of school support for children with epilepsy.
1 in 3 children with epilepsy are currently left without the crucial support they need at school.
Seizures missed or mistaken for not paying attention. School staff unaware of what to do when a seizure happens. Children unnecessarily excluded from learning, sports and trips.
Young Epilepsy’s petition is calling for UK governments to ensure that every child with epilepsy has an Individual Healthcare Plan (IHP) so they can participate fully in school life.
Young Epilepsy has free resources and training to help those who work in schools create a safe and inclusive environment for all students living with epilepsy.
Every child deserves an equal chance to succeed. Understand their epilepsy and help them reach their potential.
