HeadStart have been doing a lot of work alongside Outwood Bydales, and we have seen some really positive results with the pupils there.
We delivered a series of workshops we call ‘Shine’, working with a group of pupils from a variety of year groups to help develop their confidence and look at ways of celebrating their own strengths and achievements. These workshops are aimed at raising pupils self esteem and recognising and acknowledging the strengths and abilities that they all possess.
As a result of these workshops it became apparent that extra sessions on Building Resilience would help to encourage pupils to learn to view setbacks as opportunities and help develop emotional resilience and perseverance. We looked at encouraging problem solving and self reflection to help empower them to face challenges with confidence and determination.
It was great working with the pupils during these workshops watching their confidence in themselves gradually grow as discussions were had around topics such as how we see ourselves vs how we think others see us, our values, the importance of self care and mental fitness.
In other news, HeadStarters at Bydales have achieved their Bronze award and are now working towards their Silver award, working with HeadStart and The Key Fund to make a change within their school environment to impact positively on pupil’s mental health and well being – more to come on this!
HeadStarters at Bydales also attended our first Redcar and Cleveland Meet the Mayor event at the Civic Centre in Redcar. They had lots of questions to ask the Mayor which were well thought out and insightful, and highlighted what issues are important to them as young people in the area.
It’s great to work alongside a school who are passionate about pupils achieving their potential and who give them full support to do this.
