Funding from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner has allowed HeadStart South Tees and Barnardos to work together and make communities safer. Student ambassadors from Unity City Academy have signed up to become the very first group of ‘Bystanders’ who will eventually pass their learning onto others.
The students are currently onto week 3 of the programme where they have been learning about offensive weapons, consequences of carrying offensive weapons and the potential impacts these can have on people’s lives. The students had the opportunity to ask questions through a virtual interview with former gang members. These former gang members, from Manchester, carried offensive weapons and had to deal with the consequences. Students got great insight into how it affected their lives.
The work is continuing.
