Network Huddle: Social Prescribing and Perinatal Mental Health
Thursday 15th February, 10am -12pm, via Microsoft Teams
The VCSE Maternal Mental Health Services Project is led by Ways to Wellness, in partnership with the NHS, Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise sector (VCSE) organisations and Maternity Voices Partnerships. The project aims to lead to improved maternal mental health through integrating VCSE support into the pathway to reduce health inequalities supporting the best start in life agenda with benefits for women, partners, their babies and the whole family unit in the perinatal period. Funding was provided by the North East and North Cumbria Mental Health ICS and Perinatal Mental Health Clinical Network team, as part of the NHS England Maternal Mental Health Fast Follower programme for the development of four social prescribing link worker prototypes to support women with mild to moderate mental health needs from pregnancy to baby’s second birthday. The prototypes are based in VCSE provider organisations in Sunderland, Middlesbrough, North Cumbria and Northumberland and have been in operation for 18 months. Learning from the prototypes will be shared at this Network Huddle. There will also be an extended discussion session with the panel with the opportunity to ask any questions you might have.

Addressing CYP Health Inequalities using the NENC Core20PLUS5 framework
Closing date: Friday 9th February 2024
The Network are seeking THREE organisations or teams from any sector to collaborate with to pilot the process outlined in the NENC CYP Core20PLUS5 toolkit in a specified setting or context within your organisation. We are looking for interested organisations to commit to apply the approach in the Network’s toolkit to address a specific health inequality affecting children and young people:
You can submit projects or pieces of work that are already underway and you would seek to develop using the Core20PLUS5 approach, or submit an idea for a project you would like to progress using the framework from scratch.
Each successful organisation will be awarded funding of up to £10,000 (inc. VAT) to develop and deliver their project, which must be in the delivery phase before the end of March 2024. Support will be provided to each organisation by the Network team and Health Inequalities Advisors throughout the duration of the funded projects. The learning from the successful pilot projects will enable us to really target future work in a way that is evidenced to make significant impact. It will also provide examples of best practice which can serve as inspiration for other potential projects to be undertaken within the region, learning from previous innovations. If you are working towards addressing any of the priorities highlighted throughout the Network Core20PLUS5 toolkit and are applying/would like to apply the framework in your approach, please complete the very simple form here to express your interest in this funding opportunity.
We would particularly encourage applications from urgent and emergency care settings, and projects focused on oral health and epilepsy as priority areas, but all submissions will be equally considered.
Email any queries to Jen Hicken, Network Delivery Manager via england.northernchildnetwork@nhs.net

Beat Anaphylaxis Friendly Schools – pilot schools
Deadline: Friday 16th February 2024
It is estimated that 1 in 50 school-age children have peanut allergy, a condition accounting for around half of all anaphylaxis reactions. Combining this and the incidence of other food allergies, means that there is often more than one child per school class at significant risk of anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis Campaign report that 17% of fatal food-anaphylaxis reactions in children happen in learning environments.
The Network’s Asthma Leadership Group and the Beat Anaphylaxis project team are looking to identify a number of primary school settings across the North East and North Cumbria to work with us to develop, localise and embed a Beat Anaphylaxis Friendly Schools (BAnFS) Accreditation Framework, based on some established models of good practice.
A bespoke training and accreditation package will be developed for education setting staff following a co-design process with stakeholders in pilot schools prior to implementation of this programme at these sites across the region.
Pilot schools will support development work taking place during the remainder of this academic year. The Beat Anaphylaxis Friendly Schools (BAnFS) Accreditation framework will then be piloted within these settings during the following academic year (2024/2025), before we make a wider offer to all schools across the region.
Each pilot school will be offered two ARK Anaphylaxis Rescue Kits (suitable for primary school settings), delivered by Arcadia Medical. The ARK Anaphylaxis Rescue Kit has been designed so that schools can store and make easily accessible medical devices used in the event of an anaphylactic shock.
If you are interested in supporting this work, please respond by 16th February 2024 to Andrew Bright (nuth.beatanaphylaxis@nhs.net) in order to register your initial interest in participating. You will then be asked to complete and return a short Expression of Interest form to enable us to allocate and target our resources effectively and equitably.

Expression of Interest Opportunity Hosting of our Young Advisor group and facilitating our Youth Executive Board EOI Form Closure date: Monday 12th February 2024 The Child Health and Wellbeing Network is looking to develop our current Young Advisors group through the appointment of a suitable organisation to facilitate continuity of their regular meetings, contributing to the development and delivery of Network activity, and to develop and secure connections with a wider range of existing youth groups and organisations through the expansion of our Youth Voice Network. The active and participatory Young Advisors group also functions as our Youth Executive Board, meeting bi-monthly, which feeds into the governance structures of the Network. Background The group was established in 2021 as part of our ‘Working Together Strategy’ and has since met on a regular basis to advise on the work of the Network and develop our Youth Executive Board, who discuss and feed into the agenda of the Executive Board. We are also looking to grow our Youth Voice Network membership by utilising our ‘Network of Networks’ and expand on opportunities for wider participation from across the region. Opportunity The voice of children, young people and their families is our number one priority, as established by our wide-reaching Network membership. The Network has identified funding of up to £10,000 (including VAT where applicable), to support the facilitation and development of our Young Advisors and Youth Executive Board group, and the expansion of the wider Youth Voice Network. We are keen to hear from organisations who have wide reach into our under-served communities, with a proven track record of promoting the voice of the child. The Network invites suitably skilled local organisations to express their interest in working with us on the delivery of this important project. The contract would start in May 2024 and conclude in March 2025. There is no guarantee that the CHWN will identify an organisation with which to work and deliver this project following this expression of interest. Appointment of an organisation will be subject to the uptake of this expression of interest opportunity by suitable organisation and availability of funding post-April 2024. For more information, and to obtain the EOI pack, please contact england.northernchildnetwork@nhs.net and submit the completed application by Monday 12th February 2024. |

This data will not be used to identify any individual or location, providing your name and contact information is entirely optional.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITY FOR SCHOOLS AND ARTS ORGANISATIONS
Chris Drinkwater Creative Health in Primary Schools Award
One of the Network’s key cross cutting themes is Arts and Creativity. As such the Network has always promoted work in the creative arts and this has led to the creation of an awards programme for primary schools, in honour of our former Arts and Creativity Executive Lead, Professor Chris Drinkwater.
Creative Health is an approach to address Health and Wellbeing through engagement in creative activities such as dance, drama, visual art, film making, music or puppetry to name a few! There are many benefits of the approach in terms of our children and young people here in the North East and North Cumbria.
What is the Chris Drinkwater Creative Health Award? The Network, together with Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums, have created this award to recognise Creative Health projects in a school setting in Key Stages 1 & 2 that have been used to enhance the Relationships and Health Education (RHE) curriculum, and to encourage personal development in their pupils.
The award comes with a financial prize for the best Creative Health projects.
After a successful foundation year applications are still open for 2023/24 projects!
Who can apply?
Although any school can apply we are targeting this opportunity into settings in more deprived communities, and where socioeconomic and health inequalities are most prevalent.
Find out more about last year’s winners and highly commended projects by visiting our Healthier Together website or apply here for our 2023-24 award by 31st March 2024.
