Greengates primary school Headstarters have been engaging in a wide range of interactive sessions surrounding the importance of wellbeing, and becoming peer mentors within their school to share their learning and knowledge of being a HeadStarter.
Evidenced below from their teacher Mr Nicholson highlights two pupils who have been increasing in confidence week by week during their HeadStarter sessions.
Jessie
Since being a Head Starter, Jessie’s confidence has soared. She began the programme very attentive, but quiet.
However, after getting to know the group over the last 7 weeks, she has blossomed into a young lady who is willing to share stories, puts herself forward to read aloud within the group and has shown fantastic teamwork skills with everyone (despite being the youngest Head Starter).
The programme has given Jessie the tools to express herself freely, knowing that no judgment will be passed, and this has been evident in class too- raising her hand to contribute answers.
Overall, Jessie continues to go from strength to strength- showing maturity and understanding of each topic covered in the sessions.
Maisie
Maisie began the programme keen to learn and listen.
Over the last 7 weeks, her confidence, and understanding of mental health and the topics which surround it, have grown immensely.
Each week, Maisie is able to ask valid questions and contribute poignant answers to the session and readily looks forward to the element of the session where creativity and expression of the content can be displayed.
Maisie has gained a sense of pride and responsibility since being a Head Starter and now volunteers to read poems aloud.
She often comments how she has listened to these recordings on the Head Starter Youtube channel at home and cannot stop beaming when she updates the group.
Overall, Maisie has gained her wings of confidence and now freely chooses to use them.
