I have recently attended and completed the Cruse Grief First Aid training course and I am now a ‘Grief First Aider’.
The course gave me an insight into grief and what happens to the brain when we grieve, and that everyone’s grief is different. How we can look after ourselves throughout the grieving process, and how we can support others.
The course facilitator provided lots of resources for further support and reading.
As I am now a Grief First Aider, I can support other people who are experiencing grief.

This was a very interesting workshop that looked at how grief affects us mentally, emotionally, and psychologically. We learnt that neuroscience shows that our brains have to literally rewire their neural pathways after bereavement
Grief also has an impact physically on our bodies and on our nervous systems, and we looked at how to help people navigate their way through this, prioritising self care at all times
The workshop was really interesting, and had me really thinking about the best ways to help young people cope with grief – active listening and empathy are key, and mirror our own sessions delivered to young people at HeadStart
The practices and techniques learnt during these workshops will really help in my role, and can apply to grief felt by young people due to a variety of circumstances as well as bereavement
A very worthwhile course.

We are excited to share that we have a certified Invest in Play Facilitator in the HeadStart Team! This programme employs evidence-based strategies to enhance caregiver-child play, attachment, emotional intelligence and promotes skills development.
We are looking forward to delivering this transformative programme in schools and empowering parents to create a supportive environment for children’s growth while strengthing their foundations.

The Understanding Children’s Behaviour workshop was a 2 hour session looking at the effects of feelings on behaviour and discussing useful strategies to support managing children’s behaviour.
I found the session interesting and insightful on how important it is to access needs, feelings, and emotions.
Emaphy was a key highlight throughout the workshop and labelling and normalising emotions can help show better understanding.
The facilitator allowed a real safe space for open discussions and provided fantastic resources.
