January can feel like one of the longest months of the year, it can be a tricky time. Some of us are feeling overwhelmed especially with the colder days and dark evenings (even if these nights are becoming shorter). Mood can be low.
As part of the HeadStart programme the pupils learn about the 5 ways to wellbeing and explore different coping strategies to manage their emotions. One of the 5 ways to wellbeing is to take notice.
Take notice is about living in the present moment, the now. We spend a lot of our time thinking about the past and worrying about the future, we forget to appreciate what we have in the present. It is important to try and see the good in what is happening in your life at this present moment.
One of our HeadStarters at Dormanstown Primary Academy wanted to share how he “Takes Notice” while he enjoys one of his favourite hobbies, trainspotting. He showed an understanding of the ways to wellbeing and wanted to share this mindful activity with others.
Our HeadStarters are so creative and show us every day how to promote positive wellbeing. Many schools have achieved or will be achieving the Silver Award this year and as part of this role, they need to support others with their emotional health. We are excited to see all of their progress and good work.
