On Friday, 15 th July, Headstart were asked to be part of the Y10 Macmillan Academy Health Day. The day is designed to enable students to access workshops and activities to support their health and wellbeing. Headstart delivered yoga workshops to different groups of Y10 students including yoga postures and breath work.
Yoga supports both physical and mental health; physically it develops strength, flexibility and balance. Yoga practice helps to reduce blood pressure and can ease stress and anxiety promoting feelings of relaxation and ease.
Many of the students had never tried yoga before so it was a good opportunity for them to try something new. Trying new activities also enables young people to build resilience.
Students enjoyed the sessions saying they thought some of the yoga postures were harder than they thought and they really enjoyed the relaxation.
