The second ever ‘Morning with the Mayor’ event recently took place within the courtroom in Middlesbrough Town Hall. 67 children attend from 6 schools. The day was an opportunity for HeadStarters to come together and participate in some activities. The children also were also given an amazing opportunity to ask the mayor of Middlesbrough – Chris Cooke some questions.
There were some brilliant questions posed, which were themed around what the mayor did to combat his stress, how he looks after his mental health and how he built his resilience. The mayor shared some of his strategies when dealing with stress which involved breaking seemingly big jobs down into small manageable chunks.
Following the Q and A, the children were split into groups and were asked to complete 3 activities. There was a creative activity, where children created their own Christmas tree, an activity which collated their views and thoughts on items that were linked to the local public health plan as well as an activity linked to the HeadStarter work they had done in their schools.
The event received positive feedback from attendees and guests. The HeadStart team are looking to make this event a regular date within the school year and are already planning the next one!
