Redcar and Cleveland HeadStarters talk about anxiety
As part of Mental Health Awareness Week YR 5 HeadStarters from Nunthorpe Primary candidly shared times when they felt nervous and anxious and how they overcome it.
The group hopes that their stories inspire their peers and the wider school community to open up and offer support to each other if they are feeling anxious.

I was nervous when I was getting ready for a dance competition and I wasn’t very well, so I was
worried I would forget my dance. I overcome this when my friends were all practicing with me which
made me feel better because I knew other people would be with me.
If you are feeling anxious you can talk to people you trust

I have been anxious before. So my story is about a party, basically, I was at my cousin’s birthday
party and there were a lot of people I didn’t know there, but in the end, I asked my cousin to help me
get to know them and play with them and after that, I didn’t feel anxious anymore.
April YR5
I overcome anxiety by talking to trusted parents and friends about problems that make me upset.

During the awareness week, we hope to gather more content that will spread awareness and allow more honest conversations that will encourage young people to recognize when they are anxious
and how they can manage and cope. With ways to prevent it from becoming a problem and signposting to the most suitable resources.
Please visit our social media pages YouTube channel throughout the week to watch the wonderful content and messages from our HeadStarters.
