This week 8 students from St. Joseph’s R.C. Primary School in Middlesbrough achieved their HeadStarters Bronze Award after completing over 10 hours of guided learning on mental health and wellbeing.
The HeadStarters completed topics on being a good friend, the links between physical and mental health, the ups and downs of life, self-care, managing and identifying stress and coping with worries.
Their final Bronze award session saw the HeadStarters show their ability to support their peers by creating a care plan of coping strategies and identifying how they and their school could support a child using information from a fictional case study.
Having learned and developed some key skills around mental health and wellbeing, these students will now be acting as peer supporters in the playground and classroom settings to help other students with low-level issues they may face
The St. Joseph’s HeadStarters will start their Silver Award after Christmas where they will do some additional work on peer mentoring, including improving their speaking and listening skills, while organising a community project in school.
Well done St. Joseph’s HeadStarters!
