St Peter’s Catholic College year 9’s HeadStarter’s have been magnificent this term, starting their HeadStarter pathway and achieving their bronze award in style.
They shared some insightful comments about what mental health means to them and how they can help themselves and others.
“We can help people by asking if they are okay twice. We can help ourselves by doing things we enjoy and being around family and friends. We can ask an older brother or sister to help because you can feel comfortable”. – Yr 9 HeadStarter
“To Prevent having mental health problems we can make sure to check on your friends when they don’t look okay and always ask if they are okay twice” – Yr 9 HeadStarter
“Mental health is important because people struggle to speak out” – Yr 9 HeadStarter
The group were also involved in several events where they shared their views and took part in a food advertising focus group, providing valuable information for a study in connection with Newcastle University.
The group also attended the Q&A Meet The Mayor session and took part in workshops around strategies to support mental health.
Please check out their video for more insights into what they learned and what wellbeing means to them and others.
