Managing the Impact of Disclosures on Your Wellbeing
Online
Wednesday 10th January 2024 5-6pm
It is natural to feel worried and overwhelmed if a child tells you they are being harmed. You will want to create an environment in which you can support the child/ young person to share their experiences and to receive and report the information in a way that is both sensitive and accurate. You will want to reassure the child without over promising, you will want to react appropriately and proportionately and record your notes accurately and timely. All whilst remaining calm and measured. You have a duty of care and responsibility to the child but also to yourself and how you take care of yourself afterwards needs to be an integral part of your safeguarding process.
This course will enable you to:
Understand your stress thresholds.
Know when you might need support with self-care.
Know what helps you maintain healthy work/life boundaries.

Behavioural to Relational Approaches
Trainer – Lynn Burt (Trauma Responsive Education Consultant)
Venue: Breckon Hill Community Centre. Breckon Hill Road. Middlesbrough. TS4 2DS
25th January 2024 9am-12.30pm
This training event is delivered by Lynn Burt – Trauma Responsive Education Consultant for The Bungalow Partnership. Many of you may know Lynn from her work at Teesside University, where she created the MA Education (Trauma-Informed Practice), the PgCert Trauma-Informed Learning and Teaching and her delivery of the modules, Understanding Childhood Trauma and Helping Traumatised Children Learn. Lynn has taught children and young people from the Early Years to KS5 in a variety of settings, has a passion for supporting them to heal and thrive and enjoys working with schools to make this a reality.
Despite increasing numbers of our children and young people displaying pain-based behaviours because of chronic stress, adversity and trauma, schools are continuing to rely on punitive behaviourist approaches to ‘manage’ their students even though for many of them they are not working and for some, they are making things worse.
By moving from behavioural to relational approaches we can connect to where our students are in the brain and body in the moment and offer support to help them manage and change their behaviours with less risk of rupturing their important relationships.
This course will enable you to:
- Understand the differences between behavioural and relational approaches.
- Recognise why relational approaches are more important than ever.
- Discuss how to create calmer classrooms and deeper connections.
- Appreciate the importance of play, sensory and movement breaks, and regular check-ins.
- See the importance of staff body language, voice tone and volume.
