Tuff Tees Triumph
Congratulations to the Year 6 boys at St. Augustine’s R.C. Primary School who have completed their Tuff Tees course over the past half-term. 10 of the school’s Year 6 boys have been working with HeadStart on male mental health in preparation for moving to secondary school after the summer.
The Tuff Tees programme is an eight-week intervention centred around boys’ health to aid local young men to build resilience while also improving behaviour, self-esteem and confidence. The St Augustine’s Tuff Tees lads have used their sessions to discuss the expectations and pressures on young men, to identify role models, discussing how to be respectful of themselves and others, developing strategies to positively display their emotions and feelings and understanding their own sense of belonging.
When asked about what they have learned, the boys said “how to be kind and respectful especially in situations where we feel upset and challenged” and how to “stay calm when things aren’t going your way”.
